Short answer
A customer portal is a closed part of a website or app where, after logging in, customers see their own data and do things themselves: view orders and invoices, make bookings, download documents, submit requests. It reduces calls and e-mails for the company and lets customers get information at any time.
What customers can do in a portal
- See the status and history of their orders.
- Download invoices, contracts and reports.
- Make bookings or new orders.
- Submit requests and track their progress.
- Change their details and settings.
Why it pays off for the company
Every “where is my order?” or “could you send the invoice again, please?” takes up an employee’s time. A portal lets customers do it themselves, and the data comes straight from your systems.
Examples from our work
- Aerodium — a customer portal for bookings, gift cards and flight videos.
- Barspector — a portal for bars with stocktaking history, statistics and integrations.
The difference from an intranet
A customer portal is for customers, while an intranet is for employees. Often both run in one system with different access rights.
