Short answer
First find out what your accounting software can do by itself — many programs already support creating and receiving e-invoices. If invoices are issued by another system (ERP, online store, CRM), it is connected to accounting via an API or import, and the e-invoice is created automatically from the same data.
Possible scenarios
1. The accounting software does everything. Invoices are issued and received in accounting software that supports e-invoices. This is the simplest option if all invoices are created there.
2. Another system issues the invoices. An online store, ERP or custom system creates the e-invoice and sends it to the customer, and passes the data to accounting. This needs an integration.
3. Incoming e-invoices are processed outside accounting. Invoices are received, matched against orders and approved in a separate system, and reach accounting already approved.
How the connection works
- API — if the accounting software has an API, data is passed automatically and instantly. See what is an API.
- Import — regular file exchange on a schedule.
- A shared e-invoicing channel — both systems work with the same Peppol service provider.

We have integrated systems with the Horizon accounting software — for example, in the Valtek dealer management system. More generally: how to integrate accounting software with other systems.
